Pattern Blocks Day!
I love watching children play, examine, and create with Patter Blocks.
I started the morning by showing them these little shaped blocks.
First, we discussed the different shapes:
We looked at all the different shapes:
square, triangle, two different diamond or rhombus shapes,
trapezoid and a hexagon.
We talked about how two triangles
can make up a rhombus shape.
How it took three triangles to make one trapezoid.
And how it took two triangles and two rhombus
to create the hexagon shape.
Then I gave the children their choice
of an animal or object
pattern template.
We worked on flowers,
cars,
kites,
crabs,
penguins,
and worked together to create a turkey!
After a morning of fun and work we settled down to hear our Bible story.
We read the story of the Prodigal son.
We talked about how the daddy had Unfailing love for his son,
and that's just how our 'Daddy' or Father in heaven has unfailing love for us.
We went back to our seats and began painting in our
big U and little u.
Then we found the stamp of the letter U
and the color stamp pad they wanted, (purple)
and stamped the letter U on our worksheet.
Next, we colored in and prepared our craft.
Afterwards we had our Bible songs time.
As we marched and sang the song, "I have decided to follow Jesus,"
one student said, "Wait. Why do we say, 'no turning back?"
We kept singing and we said it again, "...no turning back, no turning back."
He stopped all of us from singing and asked again,
"Why no turning back?"
So, I explained that we will keep our eyes on Jesus and follow Him,
and not follow anyone else.
"Oooooh, Ohhh-K. I get it."
"Can we sing it again now?"
LOVE these children!!
Thank you Jesus for this incredible opportunity!
